First and foremost the hike up Mt. Fuji was fantastic. However in preparations to accessing Mt. Fuji, we were stopped by officials at the base of the admission ticket office. All the other workers were wonderful and ensuring we had proper jacket and pants for the ascent up to Mt. Fuji. However this one particular worker would not led us go through AT ALL. She kept saying we needed to show her our proper gear which we were wearing “proper gear” already. She kept saying “let me see it” which clearly she was referring to inside our bags for separate gear which we absolutely refused to do so. We had everything on our body and yet she refused, another thing to note, she didn’t check the “locals” inside their bags and so why us? One reason I believe is because we spoke English so hold and behold we’re “foreigners”. The tourist treatment difference I felt was absolutely atrocious. When she first denied us, she mention about rental gears instead of purchasing at the “only” and expensive store at Subaru 5th station. We proceed to that store for gear rentals whereabouts, to our dismay, the cashier gave us the most disgusting attitude I’ve ever experienced. It felt like a tourist scam treatment. Saying no we don’t have gear rentals then to say the “actual” gear rentals place wasn’t open yet. It was absolutely frustrating trying to get through the officials right before the admission tickets. That experience made me “MAD”. For that reason, my rating was a 2 star. I understand their concern for our safety but c’mon. It didn’t rain at all, it was just windy and cold. Yet she kept saying “show me your separate rain gear”. I believe Mt. Fuji officials should rethink how they go about what conditions and hiking should absolutely be required to bring “depending” on forecasted conditions within a 24hr period that is predictable. Especially those that perfer bullet climbing in the morning to evening.
